I found this blog while doing that google search (that we all do) for all things Sierra and it looks pretty legit. Some of you guys who actually rough it will appreciate the campground information, most of which comes with a photo.
Also looks like it has info on highway 395 itself and the things you see on the way up.
Anyway, I guess we can never have enough sources.
